The Hunger Games Minimalist Movie Posters
So I recently went to see Ghost Protocol on true IMAX, not LIEMAX. But, that’s a whole other post for a later date. There were only two true IMAX theaters in Los Angeles playing Mission Impossible and I ended up at the over priced Universal City Walk. To compensate for $10 parking, I got a free Ghost Protocol IMAX Experience minimalist movie poster. For a while now, I’ve been enjoying these minimalist takes on classic movie posters that have been popping up all over the internet. Having never really been any good at drawing, I decided to give it a try anyway.
Here was my approach. You need to find or pick a visual image that symbolizes the most prominent aspect of the film. It can be a logo, an abstract concept, or a physical prop that the public will immediately associate with that film. Let’s say for Batman, the easiest is his logo on his chest. Having not seen or read The Hunger Games, I was at a disadvantage. I visited the film’s website, watched the trailer multiple times, and even read up a little on the Hunger Games wiki. I picked up that it was about star crossed lovers that need to rise above their environment and survive the challenges put in front of them. Surprise surprise. Sounds like have the scripts I’m developing. Also, the number 12 was significant. To add some personalization for the fans that actually know the story, I wanted to include some tools that the main characters used to survive. For Katniss it was the bow and arrow. Peeta was a little harder but I gathered for the wiki that Katniss teaches Peeta a four note whistle that they use to communicate.
Let me know how you think I did. I also threw in a Harry Potter one.
